Peace Patch UK

Peace Quilt UKIn 2013 Sharnbrook Academy Federation was fortunate enough to host the International Peace Quilt which was initially produced by schools all around the world for the London 2012 Olympics as a symbol of unity and peace and in the spirit of the Olympic Truce.

The United Kingdom’s arm of this project was keen to produce a visual symbol of this continuing pledge for Rio in 2016. This shows that schools and children stand by the pledge of peace and reconciliation made in the Olympic Truce.

The International Peace Quilt was made up of each school involved producing a design which was incorporated into the larger work. Nationally, for 2016 we were keen to simplify this and asked for all UK schools to submit their school emblem electronically for inclusion. These were then used to create a dramatic visual display by screen-printing the patches together to create a large tapestry using dominant colours.

Sharnbrook Academy Federation and the Pilgrim Learning Trust linked up with Coventry Cathedral’s Reconciliation Department and had links to over 500 schools. Thank you to The House Of Flags which is based in Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire who kindly agreed to print all the wonderful logos onto material.

Thank you to every school who participated in this initiative.

Many thanks for your support.
