COLOMBIA Colegio Sagrado Corazon Montemayor

17 Mar

Thank you to Daniela age 14, from 8th grade for this wonderful bright drawing. This is the design chosen to represent Colombia and students from Colegio Sagrado Corazon Montemayor on the International Peace Quilt.

Daniela’s wish for peace: “We all wish for Peace because violence is not the way to solve problems. We don’t want guns; we don’t want people to be killed. We have a hope to change the world; we deserve a better world.”

Additional thanks to Gloria Figueroa, the school’s Principal, for the organisation of this project in Colombia. Jennifer Kirkham who is our contact in Botany Downs, New Zealand passed the project information to Gloria for which we are also very grateful.

Colombian Flag History:
The Colombian flag was adopted on November 26, 1861, making it one of the world’s oldest flags. Colombia declared independence from Spain on July 20, 1810

There is a popular Colombian children’s song which resonates – “yellow is our gold, blue is our vast seas and red is the blood that gave us our freedom.”
